Fountain: How do I link my account?
Fountain One connects to Kombo using an OAuth Client ID and Client Secret. Because the keys are tied to a Fountain integration that you assign a role to, you control exactly which permissions Kombo is granted.
Prerequisites
You need a Fountain One account with admin access to Settings → Integrations & API Keys. If you don't see this option, ask your Fountain administrator to grant you access or to create the API keys for you.
Which version do I have? Choose Fountain One if you manage credentials under Settings → Integrations & API Keys. If you instead use a private API key from Company Settings, follow the Fountain (legacy) section at the bottom.
Instructions
1. Open Settings
- Log in to Fountain.
- Click your account name in the bottom-left corner.
- Click Settings.
2. Open Integrations & API Keys
- In the settings list, find the Workflows group.
- Click Integrations & API Keys.
3. Add an integration
- Click Add integration in the top-right corner.
- Enter a Name (for example,
Kombo). - Select the Role that will be assigned to this integration's API keys. This role determines the permissions Kombo will have — choose one scoped to what you want to share.
- Click Add.
4. Create API keys
- Find your new integration in the list.
- Click the … (more actions) menu on its row and select Manage API keys.
- Click Add, give the key a name, and click Create.
5. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret
- Copy the Client ID and Client Secret shown in the dialog.
- Keep them somewhere safe — you'll paste them into the Kombo connection flow next.
Important: the Client Secret is shown only once and is non-recoverable. If you lose it, create a new API key.
Connecting in Kombo
- Open the Kombo connection link you received (from the Kombo Dashboard or your integration partner).
- Search for Fountain and select it.
- When asked which version you're connecting, choose Fountain One (New).
- Paste your Client ID and Client Secret into the corresponding fields.
- Click Set up integration.
If the setup completes successfully, your Fountain account is now connected.
Troubleshooting
- Invalid credentials — Make sure the Client ID and Client Secret are copied in full with no extra spaces. The secret is non-recoverable, so if in doubt, create a new API key and try again.
- Missing permissions after connecting — The role assigned to the integration may be too restrictive. Assign a role that covers the data Kombo needs, then reconnect.
- Wrong version — If you use a private API key from Company Settings rather than Integrations & API Keys, connect with the Fountain (legacy) option instead.
Fountain (legacy) — private API key
Only use this if your account does not have Integrations & API Keys under Settings.
- Log in to the Fountain dashboard.
- Click your account name in the top-right corner and select Company Settings.
- Under Developer Settings, click API, then Show API Keys.
- Copy the private API key listed under Primary Key.
- In the Kombo connection flow, choose Fountain (legacy), enter your tenant URL and the private API key, then click Set up integration.
